Gaztelugatxe, is a song of the folk genre and is inspired by the islet of the same name and its cultural, historical and environmental values ​​that it has together with another islet located in the vicinity called Aketx.

Gaztelugatxe is a small islet very visited, which is located on the Cantabrian coast and belongs to the municipality of Bermeo, in the province of Bizkaia, Basque Country. Gaztelugatxe is connected to the mainland by means of an artificially constructed road with stairs to climb to the top of the islet (it was formerly separated from the mainland). In the highest area of ​​Gaztelugatxe is a hermitage that was built in honor of San Juan Bautista, from there, that the island is commonly called San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, next to the hermitage there is a small shelter that is used to shelter from the wind . A San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is accessed through the long paths with stairs that was built for this purpose, it is a long climb and can be strenuous but it is worth it, some visitors who know the customs of the place, ring the bell of the hermitage three times and make a wish as is usual in this place.

The hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is also a place of offerings made by sailors and have offerings of sailors who survived shipwrecks.

Gaztelugatxe and another neighboring island called Aketx are part of a protected biotope that extends from the town of Bakio to the Matxitxako cape in the Bay of Biscay.

Gaztelugatxe is in an area where the sea continuously erodes its rocks and through time the erosion of water has created tunnels that can currently be seen at sea level, Gaztelugatxe together with the small islet Aketx, are also a sanctuary for seabirds.
